guest post: DIY Pallet Art

Our next guest post tutorial comes from Julia of Sweet Serendipity. Y'all know how much I L.O.V.E. pallet art, so when Julia emailed me this, I was WAY excited! This is a cute way to use up those old boards and make something OH.SO.cute! Take it away, Julia!

In the midst of moving and getting one house ready to sell I was finding myself well a bit grumpy and drained.  My husband kindly pointed out that Julia with a project is a happy Julia and so I took a break from packing, unpacking, touch up painting and cleaning and started working on a project.
When we were first married we wrote a family constitution.  We wrote down things that we wanted to see our family doing and typed it up in a consitution style and it adorned our wall for the last almost 10 years.  We now have 3 more children and so we asked them what they would like to see our family doing and I wrote a list of the things they said and then I wrote a secondary list that brought them altogether so my project wouldn't look like a jumbled mess of words.  Now that I have explained the why of the project lets get to the how of it.

First you are going to need to collect some pallets.  I am lucky enough to have a husband that works in retail so he was able to snag some up for me and he broke them down for me too...Yahoo Hubby!  I ended up with a pile of boards like this

Next removing all the nails and staples.  I used a Dremel and a good ole hammer for this part

Then to cut the boards to size.  I measured the wall I was going to hang it on and cut my longest board 4 inches shorter than that with the other boards being cut 4 and 8 inches shorter that the longest boards. I cut them using a jigsaw and cut a bunch of boards in different lengthes.....

like this

I moved them around until I was happy with the arrangement.
This was the most time consuming part figuring out what words where, what fonts, what sizes for the fonts and then cutting out the words onto vinyl with my silhouette.  Once that was done I adhered the letters or the frame around the letters to the boards like so:

If it had the letters I painted the whole board and rapidly removed the vinyl and if it had the cut outs of the words I just painted that in using a stencil brush.
Once dry I flipped all the boards over and liquid nailed and nailed these 2 strips of wood to hold it all together, added hangers, and foam pads(so not to ding the walls) and it was ready to hang.......

I absolutely LOVE how it turned out and am glad when you enter my home this is what you see...

I love it!

ice cream Easter basket

Welcome our guest tutorial post today...
Running With A Glue Gun
Hi Everybody! I'm Katie from Running With A Glue Gun and I'm so happy to be guest blogging at Sassy Sites. Two of my favorite things in life are ice cream and Easter. So today I'm going to share with you guys, how to make a small Easter basket out of an old ice cream container.
Ice Cream Basket DIY

supplies needed:
Small ice cream container ( mine came from Meijer)
Hole Punch
Scissors
Tissue Paper ( not pictured)
Scrapbooking Paper
Tape (optional)
Mod Podge (not pictured)
Paint Brush (not pictured)
 2 brads
Craft knife (not pictured)
* This project changed a lot when I was making it, so thats why some of the products are not in the supply picture
Step 1: Take your tissue paper and tear it up into small pieces, then glue the pieces onto your ice cream container. It may take many layers to cover your container completely, but when your done you should have something like this...
<>
Step 2: Then take your scrapbooking paper and ribbon and decorate your little container. All I did was glue some scrapbooking paper to my container then, hot glued a little bow on top.

Step 3: Now take your craft knife and make two slits on each side of your container.

Step 4: Now cut a strip of scrapbooking paper and with your hole punch, punch two holes on each end of your strip of paper. Then take your brad and feed it through the hole in your strip of paper and the silt in your container.
Fill with goodies and that's it!
Super easy and WAY cute!
Then your done, add some fake grass and
some candy and your little basket is complete!

DIY Pallet Art

My SASSY guest today is Susan from Homeroad! She is one of my very favorite blogger/crafters! Today she is going to show us how to turn a bunch of old boards into this adorable and affordable pallet art piece! Take it away, Susan.
Hi I'm Susan from Homeroad...
My hobby is turning junk I find on the side of the road into usable art and furniture for my home. I live in a home filled with castoffs upcycled into treasures! Today I'm showing you how I turned an old set of chippy, paint dripped, 3 legged sawhorses I found into an awesome piece of rustic art.
I cut off the legs, cut them to the same length, and screwed them all together...
I printed out the words I wanted to use on the computer and using carbon paper I traced each word onto the wood...
I outlined each word with a paint pen then hand painted the letters with black paint.
And so even though I didn't get a very cool set of saw horses... I did end up with a beautiful new chippy, painty sign!

DIY Metal Letters

Welcome Danielle

 from Minimoz
I love metal letters. I have bought some in the past, but I really don't want to spend $20 plus on each letter, so I tried it myself.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Cardboard letters
Black paint
Silver Paint
Brush
Paper Towel
Cardboard letters from Craft Shop
Black and Silver paint
Paint each letter black first
Wait to dry and squeeze silver over. You can just slap the paint on. Then let it half dry and use paper towel to rub some off.
Should have a nice metal look!
I found this frame on the side of the road.
I love that time of the year. :)
Daddy Moz cut to size and I painted with the same black paint.
Then it's ready to hang!
This was super cheap
&
I love it!

First, a TIP on how to GROW your own ivy wreath!
Measure the diameter of a topiary wreath frame. Cut a pantyhose leg to the length of the topiary diameter. Fill the pantyhose leg with potting soil. Tie the opening of the pantyhose leg in a knot. Thread the soil-filled pantyhose leg into the inside of a wreath frame, like a tube inside a tire. Stuff Spanish moss into the wreath frame so it covers and holds the stuffed pantyhose in place. Make three to four slits into the pantyhose, evenly spaced around the wreath. Transplant ivy starters or seedlings into the slits. Hang the wreath in partial light and in a cool area. Spray the wreath thoroughly with water to saturate the moss and soil. Spray the wreath periodically to keep the soil moist. Do not allow the soil to become soggy or dry out. Tie the ivy branches to the wreath frame with string or wire as they grow to maintain the circular shape of the topiary. After the wreath fills, trim excessive or wild growth to keep the wreath from becoming overgrown.

LOVE IT!
