Disneyland Savings

Made By Me Monday
{pinterest inspired}

________________________
I have been begging my husband to take our family to Disneyland for a couple of days. It always feels like right when we start saving and have a good amount in the bank, there always seems to be something else to spend our savings on... home repairs, car problems, the normal "life" stuff. So, I've come up with a PLAN! I am going to start my own Disneyland Bank. I am going to save up all of the extra dollars that I find in the bottom of my purse, in the dryer, and that I find floating around in the cars.
THIS was my inspiration:

I found this jar at Goodwill on a Saturday half-off day! The Goodwill worker hadn't even put it on the shelf yet, I snagged it right from her loading cart! The lid was completely rusted, so I just decided it just needed a good coat of spray paint.

I cut my vinyl in the shape of .... MICKEY, who else! :) We are calling our little bank DISNEY DOLLARS!

I put my vinyl on and polka dotted some extra Mickey ears to add around my jar.

I add some ribbon to the top.

That's It!

I LOVE it!! It may take us some time to save up, but at least this is a start! Disneyland, HERE WE COME!!

Keep Calm and Shine On

{Made by Me Monday}

Remember our Young Women's theme for the year 2012 is Arise and Shine Forth. I wanted to do something with the theme to give each of our girls this year for their birthdays.  I found this sign on pinterest and thought it was too cute! THUS, it became my weekly pinspiration.

Pinned Image

I love pinspiration!

 I love that it's not the traditional theme. I love that there's just a little bit of a "twist" to it! Keep Calm and Shine On! It still represents the theme, but just a little more SASSY! ;)

I found an old piece of artwork at Goodwill for $1.99

spray painted right over it with white and distressed the edges just a bit. I then cut my vinyl lettering out. I went back and forth on my decision for what color to do. I'm happy with my choice of GOLD! It seems like ROYALTY to me!
I LOVE the way the crown turned out!

That's it! I think it turned out super cute... if I do say so myself! ;)
Here's a look at the two of them side by side.
The fun thing is, she used her lettering as a stencil. I love this look and you can make the letters look a little more distressed that way. I did mine completely with vinyl lettering. I love them both!

Do you want to order the lettering to make your own sign? It's just $10 for the 8x14 lettering. Of course, you can make it ANY size and ANY color that you would like. Just let me know what size (if it's other than 8x14) and I will email you back with the total. To order the vinyl lettering, send me an email or leave me a comment on this post.
Happy Monday!

for the love of sonic

Made By Me Monday
{pinterest inspired}
You may have noticed THIS sign on my sidebar this week. I found it on pinterest the other day and haven't stopped thinking about it since! I decided for my New Years goal this year, I'm going to pin something from pinterest, add to my sidebar under the label "pinterest pick" and make it for the next Made by Me Monday. This will keep me motivated to keep on craftin' :)

Well, I LOVE SONIC. I needed this sign in my home and couldn't wait to get it done! So, here's how it all went down. I was at Goodwill the other day and found this beautiful sign for a whoppin' $1.50! It has great edges on it, almost like a canvas.
I was a little sad to paint over such a great vintage sign (not really!!) I went to town on it! I didn't even have to sand the top, I just started painting.
It took about 6 light coats of white spray to make it look like nothing was ever even on this sign.
Next, I cut my vinyl lettering. In the sign on pinterest, she used a turquoise color of vinyl. But I want to keep this in my house all the time, so I went with a color that matches my home a little better.
I distressed my board a little and added a bit of glaze/stain, then while that was drying I made some cute lil' pennants to hang across the top.
These are super EASY to make. Just pick some of your favorite material and cut triangles. I actually just stapled them to a part of twine, hot glue would have been better but I was too lazy to plug it in. HAHA!
My sign is complete and I LOVE it!!
 Do you want to know what I love more than this sign?

Sonic drinks, of course! It's a MUST-HAVE when crafting, in the car, working on the computer, cutting vinyl, or breathing!
route 44.
half Dr. Pepper/half Coke.
extra ice.
Happy Monday!

Candy Corn Crunch

{Made By Me Monday}
a yummy treat for your neighbors in less than 30 minutes!
_________________________
After seeing THIS post that my cute friends at Lolly Jane made for their neighbors, I thought it was a cute idea! I always give neighbor gifts for Christmas, but I guess I've always been too wrapped up in trick or treating to do Halloween neighbor gifts. This idea is SUPER easy and guaranteed to be a hit with everyone!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Crunch and Munch
Candy Corn
Halloween bags
Halloween tags

This is a perfect treat that your kids can help you make! After you make your Muddy Buddies, layer your Crunch and Munch then candy corn on top. Of course you could do plain popcorn if you think this sounds too sugary. Or could make homemade caramel popcorn and that would be YUMMY, but I tend to go for the easiest route.
create and cut out your tags , then start layering ingredients and tie bags with ribbon

2X4 Pumpkins

{Made By Me Monday!}
2x4 and Bead Board Pumpkin Tutorial
These are super easy, inexpensive and adorable!! Remember my 2x4 candy corn? Well, today I am going to show you how to make 2x4 pumpkins! These are DARLING!!!
supplies needed:
2x4's
bead board/trim
craft paint
nails
ribbon
We bought all of our supplies at Home Depot, and the entire project cost me under $3.00 to make! I cut the 2x4's and beadboard at 3", 6", and 9" tall.
You can use any kind of beadboard that you want to, I used the chunky stuff. Paint it whatever color you'd like! I mixed orange and black to make a rust orange, I think it's the perfect FALL color! (or you can just stain them, that would be cute too!)
I used 2" nails to secure the beadboard to the 2x4's. (I only used 6 nails, not 25 like the picture shows! HA!) Pound in your nails to the front of the pumpkins. I think it's SO cute to bend the nails over! Use a bit of sandpaper on the fronts, of course.
Next, use bigger nails to make your pumpkin "stem". I painted the nail heads black just to make it even cuter! :)
Then, ribbon it up!! Add as much or as little as you would like. For me, the more-the better!!
And that's it! You have a super cute set of 2x4 pumpkins.

Trick or Treat {made by me}

{Made By Me Monday}
Trick or Treat Sign
for under $2.00
This is a super simple project that costs hardly any money at all. It actually didn't cost me a thing because I already had everything at home.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
foam board
spray paint
scrapbook paper
modpodge
glue dots
vinyl lettering
sandpaper
ribbon
(I bought this Halloween scrapbook pack at Joanne's for half off. I have used it for multiple projects and STILL have tons of paper left!)
I bought foam board at the dollar store and had some leftover from another project I had been working on. I cut my boards down to 12X12 sheets using a razor blade. I decided that I wanted the back to look good too, and I already had the black spray paint. But if you don't have paint, don't worry- no one will see the back anyway! This is what happens when you hold the piece you are spraying. I wanted to make sure the edges got done...
_______________________
While your foam boards are drying, create your "scrapbook pages". I just started layering and layering papers and grabbed items from around my house that might be cute on it, like this paper clip! The cute little cutouts are from the Halloween scrapbook pack.
__________________________
Once you have all of your scrapbook pages laid out the way you want them, start gluing them down.
__________________________
After I glued my scrapbook paper down, I measured and cut out my vinyl lettering.
________________________
Put your lettering on and then mod podge your page to each piece of foam board.
_________________________
I wanted to polka dot my T. Want to know a trick? Hole punch out your vinyl to make for the perfect sized polka dots!
_________________________
I wanted to rough up the edges a little.
____________________________
Instead of using a drill to make my holes, I just used a paint brush. That's the JOY of doing this project using foam board instead of wood! :)
______________________________
Tie on tons of ribbon and make a ribbon hanger for the top.
