Organize Your Ribbon (take 2)

Made by Me Monday!
Hanging Ribbon Organizer

_____________

I tried making a different ribbon organizer once...welp, it didn't work out so well. First of all, I didn't have the counter space in my office big enough to store it and it didn't do so well at keeping my ribbon untangled. So, I decided to try again. I had been looking everywhere for something that I could make into something that:
  • could hang on the wall
  • keep my ribbon untangled
  • look cute!
One day, while shopping at the Goodwill, I came across something that caught my eye because it was $1.00(who doesn't love dollar day at Goodwill!) And I thought it might work! I was so excited to buy it and bring it home! When I showed it to my husband, he told me it was, in fact, a gun rack.  Whatever it is... I love it!

I can't find my darn BEFORE picture, so this one will have to do. First thing, I painted it white. I then, collected some dowels that would work for my ribbon to hang from.

I measured the space that I had from side to side...

Cut my dowel down to that size...

Drilled a hole in each side to hold my dowels

repeat for all three dowels

sort and organize your ribbon

the drilled hole is just deep enough and there is just enough "give" in the gun rack, so that you can easily take your dowel on and off to add spools of ribbon.

Add a cute vinyl and there you go!

I love it!
Super easy to do and VERY useful!!
Happy Monday!!

Organizing your Jewelry

Does your jewelry look like this?
...not for long!

My sister made her girls a jewelry organizer for Christmas this year, and it turned out OH. SO. CUTE.  She found an old frame at goodwill, added some cute knobs and hooks from Hobby Lobby... and voila!

________________

Homemade by Jen made hers out of a bamboo cutlery tray. Super cute!

Check out THIS cool idea using a nuts and bolts organizer!

_____________

On My Side of the Room used chicken wire and frames. I love this!

Bluebird Heaven used this old antique printer drawer. (guess what my sister in law just gave me... yep, an antique printer drawer! I wasn't sure what to do with it, welp... now I know!)

________________

Songbird Nesting used cute burlap that she can just use push pins to hang her jewelry with.

_______________

Cottage 38 North used an old window, some twine, and hooks!

_______________

Paper Seed used a piece of wood, scrapbook paper, and some hooks. So simple!

_______________

Say Yes to Hoboken made her jewelry organizer using a frame and pegboard.

And lastly...
here is MY jewelry organizer!

a candle holder!
I've actually used this for years and it works perfect!
What do you use to organize your jewelry?

...under the train table!

The playroom was halfway already organized today, only because I had just made a trip last week to the goodwill and donated 3 black trash bags of toys! YIPEE!! So, here's a little tour of our playroom today... (trust me, if you would have seen it LAST WEEK, it WOULD have been chaos!)
____________

I found this train table at a yard sale about a year ago for $20.00. At the time, my little guy was obsessed with trains... not so much anymore. So, we use it mainly for storage now. Hey, whatever works! :)

The greatest thing about this train table is that it has TONS of storage underneath. Out of sight!

blue bucket-cars, yellow bucket-animals and action figures, red bucket-play food, green bucket-trains... and then you put the top on!

I organized the books and movies...

Now, let's talk about the toy box
(AKA-the catch all BOX)

BIG toys, random toys, toys with no category... YES, it drives me crazy- but I have to remind myself, it's a playroom! :)

Lastly, the DRESS UP clothes!

We have dedicated the entire closet to dress up. The boys love it! So, an easy fix... a $5.00 bucket from WalMart

I have created (but not yet cut out) a vinyl that will go inside the closet.
It will read something like:
"WHEN I GROW UP,
I WANT TO BE A...
SUPERHERO"
I am thinking of getting a couple of full length mirrors
to hang in there too! Make it a full on "dress up area"!
...and to finish off the "dress up area",

I added a curtain in the doorway,  (we took the closet door off because lots of fingers were getting smashed) so they can hide out in there too!

So, that's the playroom!

Getting Organized with KIDS!

Organized Home shares 8 helpful hints on how to help your kids' rooms stay organized! Sounds like an oxymoron, right? Wrong! The tips REALLY work!

1. Take a child's eye view
to organize a child's room, solutions must fit the child!

2. Bring the child into the process
if they are involved in the effort, they are more likely to maintain the organized room

3. Sort, Store, and Simplify
go through outgrown clothes, store out-of season clothes, and get rid of any "extras"

4. Contain, Corral, and Control
containers help to control the number of toys out at any one time

5. Make it easier to put away, harder to get out
the premier rule for efficient children's storage!

6. Organize bottom to top
the most used toys should live on the bottom shelves,
and store less frequently used possessions up top

7. Label, Label, Label
(my favorite!) :)

8. Build a maintenance routine
daily "morning pickups" and "nightly pickups" are the key!

I am going to get busy
 organizing in our playroom today!

Pantry in Progress

(maybe I should have said)
WARNING!
Pantry in Progress
_____________

BEFORE

We have a VERY LARGE pantry! It used to be the outside workroom, but we enclosed it for more pantry space. And do you know what happens when you have more pantry space? You have MORE STUFF! ugh! I am very excited about this little endeavor, though! I can feel it in my bones that it's going to be great!!

The first day, I...
took everything off the shelves
threw things away!
swept and mopped under the wire shelves
(that is what's great about rolling shelves!)
starting categorizing
washed food storage buckets
starting putting things back!

I'm half way there...

______________

...the next day
I went to the dollar store and bought these great little baskets to keep all of the "lunch stuff" in. Now, when I am preparing lunch boxes in the morning, I can just grab and go!

One of my biggest complaints to my kids is that they NEVER shut the cereal boxes! So, the solution to that is these great Rubbermaid containers from WalMart!

Some more containers for the crackers and cookies

I couldn't find a good bucket to store the chip bags in, so a laundry basket will have to do in the meantime.

I printed off the labels for the small green baskets onto scrapbook paper. I labeled my snack/cereal containers with vinyl lettering.
____________

the next day...
I organized my food storage.

I put everything back together and even added a cute window.

AFTER!

remember the before?

I think my Mission is Accomplished!
How have you been doing?

1/7/11

I have a MONEY-SAVING secret!

...and I'm going to share it with YOU!
(remember this post?)

Have you been to Bath and Body Works lately? It's their Hello, Yellow SALE! Which means there's going to be tons on sale... and head straight for the SOAP! I even found one lonely Christmas soap at the bottom of the barrel for $1.25! YAHOO!! I'm a little bit of a soap freak!

 Well, here's my secret...
When you get home from Bath and Body Works, empty half of each bottle (of course, you will want to use the same scent of soaps)  into another container.

I was just throwing out a bleach bottle, so I washed it out and used it for my hand soap solution.

Then, fill the bottle up to the line with water.

Make sure to leave enough room at the top of the bottle
to shake so the water and soap will mix.

Put your lid on and shake. You may have to rinse a few of them, but what could be better to rinse off than SOAP! Add a cute label to your hand soap refill container! My favorite thing about using a bleach container, is that it's childproof. So, if your child does happen to get a hold of this, they won't think it's kool-aid!

So, you are probably thinking that this won't be as efficient for cleaning your hands as a full bottle of soap would be. Let me just say... I'm a little bit of a hand washing geek (hence the amount of soap bottles I buy) and I've been doing this same method for a couple of years now. It really works! ;) It still smells good, does the trick of cleaning the germs, it's less harsh on your hands when it's diluted, and it will cost you half of what you normally spend!

Soap Sale= $3.33 each
Marni's Method= $1.66 each
Soap Secret= priceless!
