Getting Organized with KIDS!

Organized Home shares 8 helpful hints on how to help your kids' rooms stay organized! Sounds like an oxymoron, right? Wrong! The tips REALLY work!

1. Take a child's eye view
to organize a child's room, solutions must fit the child!

2. Bring the child into the process
if they are involved in the effort, they are more likely to maintain the organized room

3. Sort, Store, and Simplify
go through outgrown clothes, store out-of season clothes, and get rid of any "extras"

4. Contain, Corral, and Control
containers help to control the number of toys out at any one time

5. Make it easier to put away, harder to get out
the premier rule for efficient children's storage!

6. Organize bottom to top
the most used toys should live on the bottom shelves,
and store less frequently used possessions up top

7. Label, Label, Label
(my favorite!) :)

8. Build a maintenance routine
daily "morning pickups" and "nightly pickups" are the key!

I agree with all of your tips, particularly 1 and 2. I did that for my children in the early years and it worked a treat - clothes pegs for them to hang up their clothes (at their height) and a tall-boy wardrobe so they can get their own clothes in and out of there; and for daily items they had plastic boxes under their bunk-bed. They were always asked to put away their clean laundry and dirty laundry in their respective places. Those good habits will last a life-time, I hope :)
