Let's Chat...update!

Won't you sit with me for a minute and let me know your opinions?
I am the most indecisive person when it comes to decorating this here blog. I have changed my blog look more than anyone I know! I can't seem to be happy or settled on just ONE look. Now that I've created THIS new look, I think the writing is hard to read, and the screen isn't wide enough, and it just doesn't have much personality! I know that this is MY blog and all... but your opinion matters so much to me! I want to know what you like to look at. (After all, this blog IS ABOUT YOU!)
  • do you like the shabby chic look?
  • do you like the background I've chosen?
  • do you like the font of choice?
  • how do I make blog wider?
  • do you like the simplicity of the header?
  • do you like the followers at the top of a blog?
  • do you want to create something new for me? (hint hint!)
So I need your opinions, please!
...one more thing, BE HONEST! I can take it! :)
*Thanks to everyone for helping me to know how to widen my blog! I'm LOVIN' the look of it!! Keep the opinions comin'

I love the background, but then again, I love Shabby Blogs (I was their last featured blogger that they had)! I change my background all the time, the header too! Shabby Chic is my fav!

I think your header could use a little pop, being that the background is simple. what kind, not sure, but something!

Font is good to go! Nice and clear and easy to read!

I like that you want our opinions as readers, and value them! I LOVE your blog and plan to keep on reading as long as you keep LOVING it too! That is what matters the most!

Hi Marni,

Don't feel bad, I am the exact same way. I have changed my blog so many times, I've messed it up to then fix it again. As a matter of fact, I just finished with yet another new header see here: http://inspirationsbyd.blogspot.com
I guess that's why I don't purchase a design, I'm afraid I'll get tired of it and waste money on unnecessary things. Anyway, I'll give you my personal opinion and I know how to make it wider too, but this comment will be too long, so I will try to post about it next week or email you if you like. Yes it needs to be somewhat wider, the background is cute, you can't go wrong with that b/c there are so many cute ones out there. I also have a tutorial on my blog on the header if you want to look at that.

I like dots (obviously!) so they're cute. I'm not sold on the font, but I don't mind it. I would go for making your blog wider - when I first did it, I just googled how-to. I didn't even notice the followers at the top - who knew you could do that!

Anyways, maybe your "thing" is to have no thing and you let someone new design a new blog background for you each month - that'd be fun...

I like the background, and the font is easy to read yet interesting. It would be nicer if it was a little bit wider. :) Most of the time though I read everything in google reader, so blog design isn't a huge deal for me! :) But I did stop by to see how pretty your new design is!

I love it when people ask their readers for suggestions...

I don't think that I can see everything on your blog because I don't see any flowers and or followers :) I am viewing in Chrome...

I do like the shabby background look. It seems to match your style well.

If you want to change the width of your blog, log onto your host and go to the html/css style sheet page.

Make sure you download and save your html in case you don't like the new version.

Search for this (you can use the control F feature to search):

/* Outer-Wrapper
----------------------------------------------- */
#outer-wrapper {
width: 1025px;
margin:0 auto;
padding:10px;
text-align:left;
font: $bodyfont;
}

#main-wrapper {
width: 530px;
margin-left: 20px;
float: left;
word-wrap: break-word; /* fix for long text breaking sidebar float in IE */
}

#sidebar-wrapper {
width: 250px;
float: right;
word-wrap: break-word; /* fix for long text breaking sidebar float in IE */
}

#newsidebar-wrapper {
width: 170px;
float: left;
word-wrap: break-word; /* fix for long text breaking sidebar float in IE */
}

The outer wrapper is the man wrapper and (in this case) two sidebar wrappers. The dimensions are described by width.

To change the width of any of the main or sidebar column change their width parameters only. Then change the width of the outer wrapper by the same amount because it has to expand to include the new width.

Change only one width at a time, i.e. main or column.

Good luck!

I love the dot a lot! It is a little tough to read but I think if you made it wider that it would be perfect! I didn't notice the bloggers at the top of the page? I am viewing with safaria. Good Luck! Oh and that is the fun thing about having your own 'space' you get to design, pick n choose and change as much as you want too! Melanie givebacktoday.blogspot.com

These are the things I love:
the color
the background polka-dot

Things I might change:
the font for the posts
maybe a little more bling in the header

Overall, I really like it.

That's a lot of questions! I will say, though, that I love the background - polka dots are oh so cute! I'm a fan of the font too!

Hey Marni I'm probably not the best person to be giving advice, but I'm in the process of getting a blog makeover. I went through designsbykassie.blogspot.com. She has been AMAZING to work with. When I told her what I wanted her rough draft was a thousand times better than what I was thinking. Her prices are really reasonable. She does everything from a basic header to a full blown makeover. I'm not tech savy AT ALL. I had no idea how to do any blog updates on my own and couldn't figure out the special codes. I highly recommend checking out Kassie!!

I change my background A LOT.
Though I am trying to figure out how to strech my blog alittle.

I really like the background...polka dots are fun:) I think the header could be more fun though. Maybe add some pictures?!? I like the followers at the top, that way if someone whats to follow they don't have to search for the follow button! The font is a little hard to read, but not terrible. Maybe if you typed in bold it would be darker. Good luck tweaking your blog!

I love the background and colours, very cute and not distracting! I'd fancy up the header/title to grab new readers' attention faster & to make your site look more unique, perhaps use a graphic that reflects what you're all about somehow? I'm no graphic artist though, being a Shabby Blogs user you can tell exactly where my header and background came from!! ;)

I think the font is OK. I wouldn't go any smaller size and usually I prefer sans serif fonts for on screen reading, but it does fit with the "shabby chic" look and it's cute! :)

I like your blog a lot! Just thought I'd give a couple of ideas and if they help - great! I'm certainly no expert myself..! Best of luck with your blog! xx

I think changing blogs around is vital to keeping the life in the blog. Just like decor and furniture placement in a house... it's gotta be updated/rearranged every now and then. I've changed my blog GAZILLIONS of times... you know that! ;) I definitely like the wider format. I went with templates from LeeLou because they're wider and I really love having the wider format. It feels more "modern". i can see everything just fine on your blog. whatever you choose is great. the wider format is so much better, for sure. you can see more linkies without scrolling as much. ;)
